April 1, 2014

Dear Parents:
It is that time of the year! Things are super hectic from now until graduation, so I am sending home a calendar for April and May with scheduled events. More, of course, will be added, and I will post updates to my blog. Keep on your senior about keeping you informed, as well!
Mrs. Tommie Lynn Hinson does a week-long etiquette class for the seniors each year in April. This is scheduled for next week, April 7-9, during 4th period. On Thursday, April 10, the seniors will drive to the Troy Country Club for an etiquette luncheon. Please send $9 for the lunch by this Friday, April 4.
Graduation invitations should be sent out 4-6 weeks ahead of time (6 is proper, but 4 is the minimum!) April 11 is 6 weeks until graduation!
Prom is April 11. Lead out is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Seniors should arrive no later than 6:15 p.m. in order to take pictures with Townhouse and get lined up. Prom picture money is due April 4.
Our Patriot Pal Field Day is Friday, May 9. Please wear your Patriot Pal t-shirts. We will be having our PP picture for the yearbook taken this day as well.
7-12 Honors Day is May 13. This is when the top three students from each class are honored. Dress nicely, but nothing specific.
DRESS CODE FOR BACCALAUREATE, CLASS DAY, GRADUATION, CLASS PICTURE AT CHURCH
Girls need a white dress. It must adhere to the dress code. No strapless, spaghetti straps, or too short dresses. If girls sit on the front row for class day, short dresses can be very revealing. White or nude dress shoes must be worn. Boys need to wear khakis and white button-up shirts with a tie. When wearing the gown, bow ties do not work well with the collar, so for Baccalaureate and graduation please wear a regular tie. You may wear a bow tie for Class Day. Boys must wear dress shoes. NO BOOTS!
Senior Scholarship Day is May 16. This is when the seniors will be presented scholarships from their chosen universities and other organizations. We will walk in together as a class, and we will wear our gowns (no caps, but bring them for the class picture). Boys, please wear khakis and dress shoes, (no boots!) along with a white button-up shirt and tie. Girls, wear your white dresses and white or nude shoes. After Scholarship Day, we will head over to First Baptist Church of Troy to practice for Baccalaureate. We will take our formal cap and gown class picture at this time, so don’t change clothes yet! Be sure to remember your cap.
Sunday, May 18, is our Baccalaureate service. It will be at First Baptist Church in Troy at 2:00 p.m. Wear the white dress/ shoes and button up/ tie/ dress shoes. Seniors should arrive by 1:30 p.m. Immediately following at 3:00 p.m., the school is hosting a reception for Mrs. Sikes, also at the church. Please come by and show your appreciation for all her work! 
May 19 – We will practice for Class Day that afternoon. Grades 1-5 are having their Honors Day that morning, so I will let you know a time as soon as I can!
May 20 is Class Day. Seniors, be at school at 8:00, again wearing your white dress and button-up shirt with khakis and tie.
May 21 is Kindergarten graduation. It starts at 9:00. They do something special for their senior buddies during the ceremony, so it is important for us to be there and support them! We will sit together in a special section. Please arrive at 8:45. It would be nice to have a small graduation present for them, also!
May 23 – YAY! GRADUATION! We will meet that morning for breakfast together at 8:00 (location to be determined). Afterwards, we will go to the school and clean up the field and practice for graduation. That evening, seniors should meet in Mrs. Payne’s room at 6:00 for pictures, etc. Graduation starts promptly at 7:00. (Same dress code – white dress, khakis, button-up, tie….).
Please remember, per board policy, if a senior does not show up ON TIME for an event practice, or the actual event, they will not be allowed to participate in the event! This includes Baccalaureate, Class Day, and Commencement. PLEASE BE ON TIME!
If you have any questions, email me at jpayne@pikelib.com.
Thanks for all your help!
